Paul Koek

Paul Koek studied percussion at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. He was closely involved in the founding and development of the orchestra Hoketus, which toured all over Europe and the United States. He has also been a member of many Dutch and international ensembles, such as the Schonberg Ensemble, the Steve Reich Ensemble, the Netherlands Wind Ensemble and the Ebony Band. At this moment he is a member of a.o. LOOS .



With various one-off ensembles he has performed work by such contemporary composers as Morton Feldman, Luciano Berio, John Cage, Louis Andriessen, Cornelis de Bondt, Edgar Varese and Karlheinz Stockhausen. He developed an improvisation project with computer artist Joel Ryan.



Alongside to his musical activities, he has also been working in the theatre: he has composed for and performed in productions by, among others, Robert Wilson, the Theatre Group Amsterdam and Hollandia, of which he is currently artistic director. With composer/writer Dick Raaijmakers he collaborated in several music theatre works, such as Inona and Der Fall/Depons.
