Saxophone-player, composer, radio-editor

VERA VINGERHOEDS is playing, improvising and composing music since 1975. She's a wellknown BANDLEADER: her music is always a combination of written and improvised music. Various styles are integrated: jazz, funk, african, modern, free.

Her most recent own ensemble is called: VINGERHOEDS, VAN BINSBERGEN, NIKS & KOOL. Being a quartet with altosaxophone, guitar, bassguitar and drums, this ensemble makes an adventureous trip from junglebeat to funky rap; from jazzy saxophonemelodies to heavy rockguitar. The band has toured in West-Africa, but has been playing a lot in The Netherlands as well (a.o. Northsea Jazz Festival 1996).

As a COMPOSER, Vera Vingerhoeds has written al lot of music for her own ensembles in the improvising music scene; but she also wrote a great deal of film-and theatre music. Two of the compositions she recently finished are pieces for a very big, very old danceorgan: The Busydrone ( Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam).

Since 1996 she's also PRODUCER: she composes all the jazzradio-programs at the VPRO broadcasting company. Before that, she was a jazzradio-announcer at the NPS broadcasting company.

Over the years she has been PLAYING with a.o.: Martin van Duynhoven, Sean Bergin, Toumani Diabate, Keletigi, Wilbert de Joode, Joost Buis, Ig Henneman, Corrie van Binsbergen, Arend Niks, Mischa Kool, Leo Cuypers.

Her OWN ENSEMBLES were a.o.: Vera Vingerhoeds & Lazybones; Vera Vingerhoeds Septet; Vera Vingerhoeds Kwartet; LIST; 5 SLAG 1 WIJD (jazz + popmusic); Vera Vingerhoeds/Sean Bergin kwintet en duo.
